Posted in Charo Worth, Easter Lily Harris, Uncategorized at 11:04 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

I’m in the middle of writing up several updates for all of you, but wanted to post this notice that as of 11 am this morning, all of the medical needs noted over the past few weeks have been funded.  GO YOU!!

You all are great – as of right now, we are good to go.  We do have a few with some upcoming expenses, but stay tuned and we’ll let you know in the next few days.

It will include Choco Davis – surgery to remove a bullet from his knee and also surgery to remove the arthritic top of one femur.  It will also incude potential surgery for Juicy Lu to remove a fluid filled mass.  And, finally, heartworm treatment for a newbie, Wilhemina Ranger.

Stay tuned!

UPDATE – Easter Lily – very sweet broken lhasa

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:15 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

LITTLE MISS EASTER LILY is just the sweetest thing.  But, you know, I was looking at the picture from the shelter that shows how matted she was and I realized that with her back end as broken as it is there is NO WAY that dog could have lived on the street.  She can barely walk more than a few feet at a time and then has to rest – so it dawned on me that this girl was so obviously sitting in someone’s back yard like this - how else could she have gotten enough food to survive?  Even athletic young dogs on the street are skinny – Lilly isn’t fat, but she certainly is not skin and bones, so… there is some really evil person out there that left this absolutely gorgeous lhasa girl to waste away in a back yard – I really, really wish we could find that “human” and return the favor.

Her vet bills are almost totally funded – thanks to Susan Lewis, Karen Anderson, Odean Cusak, Marty Howard, Tricia Havis, Ginger Guest-Warnick, Donna Wilt, Cat Martindale, Amanda Moulton, Byron Ledger, Michelle Bynum.  We only need around $50 to have her off the hook, so if you can donate for her fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Easter Lily Harris)!!!

BEAUTIFUL BROKEN LHASA GIRL – EASTER LILY HARRIS

Posted in Easter Lily Harris, Forever Fosters at 10:36 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

 EasterLilyHarrisOriginal.jpg

This one is soooo sad.  We went to pick up a little shih tzu at the shelter last week (turned out to be a Maltese , whew!), and they asked us if we wanted this matted, broken girl.  They thought she had been hit by a car and of course no one would adopt her from the shelter.

Well, we thought she was a mess when we picked her up, but it’s even worse than we thought.

She has not been hit by a car – just has a horrible very old back injury.  She can barely walk but thankfully, is not in pain.

Here you can see her crooked back.  And how totally wasted away her back end is.  Almost no muscle at all in her back legs.

EasterLily4-19-2007-1.jpg

And how her back legs don’t “work right.”

EasterLily4-14-2007-2.jpg

Here, she’s cleaned up and resting.

EasterLily4-14-2007-3.jpg

She LOVES these little beds.

EasterLily4-14-2007-1.jpg

She also has a horrendous heart murmur – grade V – and is on meds for congestive heart failure.  We don’t think she has long, but will give her a place to stay as long as she wants to stay around.

Consequently, we aren’t going to ask for a monthly sponsorship for this beauty.  Just for help with vet bills as she incurs them.

To date, she has $365 in vet bills and as of today, $325 in donations.  Thank you Susan Lewis, Karen Anderson, Odean Cusak, Marty Howard, Tricia Havis, Ginger Guest-Warnick, Donna Wilt, Cat Martindale, Amanda Moulton, Byron Ledger, Michelle Bynum, .  If you can donate for her fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Easter Lily Harris)!!!

KULA PARKS TAKES SWIM CLASS – BROKEN, HIT BY CAR LHASA BOY IN PHYSICAL THERAPY

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:13 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

 Working.jpg

Kula started physical therapy yesterday.  The hope is that we can build back up his muscles so that he can use the bad leg at least partially.  We may later need to have the bones in the foot fused so that he puts the pad on the ground.  Right now, because of neurological damage, he often walks with the top of his foot dragging the ground.  It is possible that this physical therapy will help.

Here are a few pictures from his day yesterday…

On Ball.jpg

What a sweet kissy face boy Kula is.

Hurdles.jpg

One exercise to build up the muscles in his back leg is to make him walk over small hurdles.

RangeofMotion.jpg

Here, the physical therapist is testing his range of motion.

Waterwalking.jpg

Hey, the water is rising.  Help, get me out of here.

Done.jpg

Ahhh, finally, after 30 minutes of the water walking, I can rest and go home!!

Thankfully, the physical therapy is not as expensive as orthopedic surgery, but it does cost.  The cost is $350 for five hour-long sessions which include the water tank, hurdles, etc.  Once he gets done with these five sessions, we will re-evaluate his future needs.

If you can donate for his fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Kula Parks)!!!

HAPPY NEWS from an adopter!! Cori Grand and Essie Turner

Posted in Adoptions at 6:00 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Just wanted to drop a line to let you know how much I love Cori and to thank-you once again for your email which put Cori in my sights and for giving him a wonderful home for many months.

He is the sweetest little boy – how he ended up in the pound in the condition you saw him and with his terrible dry eye, well, I just don’t understand. We were at the vet this past weekend and my vet said he still has vision in that eye, but there is alot of scaring.  He also had a small cornea ulcer.  So, he’s on the good cyclosporine ointment / ulcer ointment and “Natural Tears” to keep him lubricated.  We did the test to see how much tears his eye produces and it showed NONE.  Isn’t that terrible?  She said it was like whenever he blinks, he might as well have sandpaper in his eye.

He didn’t much like having his toenails cut – pretty upset reaction. Anywho, he and Chelsea (my other new kiddo) haven’t started to play yet, but I don’t expect that to be the case forever.  Chelsea’s first reaction is to be a real b*&^% and I think she intimidated Cori.  Right now, Cori just lets her do her thing and stays very laid back.  I don’t expect that to last much longer.

Thank-you so much again.  I LOVE this little boy.  He cuddles / plays / talks … heck, he does everything.

HAPPY NEWS from an adopter!! Seth Worth

Seth_Yancey1[1].jpg

Hi Teresa and Carmen,

We just made it home.  There was a wreck on the interstate and we had to sit for over an hour but we are now home.

Seth is an absolute angel.  He was fine the whole way.  We stopped a lot to walk around and get treats and he seemed very happy.  When he wasn’t in my lap I put his doggy blanket and toys in the back seat so he would feel at home but he made a bed out of Bruce’s jacket instead.

The really amazing thing is how he and the other two hit it off.  Sweetie began wagging her tail right away at him and for the first time EVER initiated play with him.  He and she are still going in and out the back door, playing.  Colby is supervising.  I put his eye drops in and he did fine.  I felt like he was helping me – he knew I was a beginner.

Thank you both for bringing such a wonderful little guy into our lives.

WAHOO!! MCGUIRE HARLEY HURST – PREVIOUSLY BROKEN SHIH TZU BOY – ADOPTED IN SEDONA, AZ

Posted in Adoptions, Happy Tails at 10:36 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

 HarleyAdopted.jpg

Of course, you MUST remember THIS BOY.  If not for many of you, he would absolutely NOT be alive today!!  And, he would not be living in the lap of luxury in Sedona, AZ tonight.  He traveled this weekend via another wonderful volunteer from the DFW area to his new mom in Sedona!!

The happy message came from his temporary foster mom, Emily, from Phoenix…

“Harley is on his way home to Sedona now. Eddie had no hesitation whatsoever. She told me she didn’t sleep last night because she was so excited. Harley is going to be living the good life. Eddie arranged her schedule so she wouldn’t have to leave her house for the next 5 days so she can just spend time bonding with Harley. What a cute boy!”
HUGE thanks to Jenni and Becky who alternated taking care of him because of horrible work schedules.  He stayed at Jenni’s house and Becky went over at lunch to do check on him daily.

Great teamwork.  Big props!!

ARABELLA – update shih tzu lhasa apso mix

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:25 am by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

 Arabella3-3-2007-2.jpg

My husband took her to have her stitches out today and her incisions looked at.  The vet said she looks good and her prognosis is excellent. He said she is probably about 8 and she is a very active, happy little girl.  She is settling in here and being deaf does effect her one bit.  She will need a family that can keep up with her and make sure she gets enough exercise everyday.  She is an amazing little girl and we just love watching her personality come out.  It’s so odd having a female foster for more than a couple of days but they really are all the same unless you lift their little legs.
Also, the mass came back benign so she is good to go.

CHARO HAS TO GO BACK TO THE VET!

Posted in Charo Worth at 8:08 pm by Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue

Little Charo, just released from the ICU on Saturday, was refusing to eat today so we decided to run her back to the vet for a look/see.  You know, as close a call as she had, we aren’t taking any chances.  We had x-rays and bloodwork to make sure she is ok.  The x-rays turned out ok.  No increase in congestion.  So we’re waiting on the bloodwork tomorrow to make sure she doesn’t have anything else going on.

Unfortunately, we just ran up another $290 in vet bills!

If you can donate for her fund, please donate HERE via paypal or go HERE to send a check(specify Charo Worth)!!!
