Augustus Davis – in ICU with intestinal problems
Augustus Davis – this adorable little boy has made such amazing progress since he was rescued out of a nasty breeder situation. He came to us with heartworms and successfully went through phase I of his treatment then came down with some sort of intestinal virus. He threw up his dinner Friday night, had very bad diarrhea and didn’t eat a single bite of food all weekend. I had him at the vet at 10 am on Monday. He was immediately put on IV’s and hospitalized. At first, we thought he might have an obstruction since he didn’t respond to flagyl over the weekend and since he had been so sick for the entire weekend, we decided that we needed to exclude an obstruction asap. He had a barium series on Monday. Thankfully everything flowed through him correctly, but very slowly, leading our vet to determine that it was an intestinal virus. After a few more meds, Augustus started responding and ate a meal on Tuesday. He stayed hospitalized through Wednesday. We’ve spent $475 on his ICU bills, which included $240 for the barium series to rule out an obstruction. Now, he’s back to being normal. Unfortunately, while he was in the hospital, Animal Planet came to video the second installment in the puppymill dog episode that will air in about six months. Poor Augustus, his aspirations to be a movie star didn’t materialize.
