Alamo Bexar – adorable little boy with a broken leg – now fixed and walking!!!
I’m sure you all remember Alamo Bexar – this adorable little boy we took in from the San Antonio pound. His front leg had been broken and the ends had already healed. He had learned how to get along very well with the broken leg. Often times he would sling the leg out and somehow catch the the ends of the break together and use his leg as a prop. We took him to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists – Dr. Brian Beale – to fix his leg. The surgery went well, but even before he was released, Dr. Beale noticed that he was holding his leg straight out to the side because of the way the tendons and muscles had adapted to the leg when it was broken. So back into surgery he went and Dr. Beale adjusted the angle of the “mend” to utilize the existing configuration of muscles and tendons. And, I might add, he did it for free!!
The new surgery worked and six weeks after he healed, he started rehab. CLICK HERE to see a short video of him in the water treadmill at Gulf Coast.
Once his leg was working fairly well, we put him through heartworm treatment and he successfully completed that last month.
Although not walking perfectly, CLICK HERE to see the little boy taking a stroll just a couple of weeks ago.
This little dog would have lost his leg if not for all of the wonderful supporters of Lone Star. You all ROCK!
